The MCSCD offers machine planting, weed barrier fabric, and hand plants (for sale only, we do not plant hand plants unless it is within the Tree Enhancement Program), and a variety of tree and shrub species to choose from. We offer machine planting with or without weed barrier and hand planting with or without weed barrier.
Tree and shrub plantings are great for a number of ecological benefits. These plantings reduce soil erosion, livestock and wildlife protection, and provide great windbreaks for farmsteads.
Early spring, we head to the nurseries and grab our trees, put them in the cooler and have our hand plant pickup day, then we plant trees starting late April, early May! After machine planting and TEP, we have an excess sale day (to get on the list to be notified when that is, call the office!), and there's usually a line down our driveway for that sale! Tree season is busy but we love it!
Costs for tree planting are currently at $1/foot in a tree planting with weed barrier, if you choose to plant without weed barrier, it comes down to $0.50/foot. Weed barrier is strongly recommended, but not required for our tree plantings. The extra boost in moisture retention and weed control it provides is huge!
